New Midway Coordinator Revamps the Ventura County Fair

Fair veteran, Chris Leavitt, brought his many years of experience and a keen eye for creating successful events to the Ventura County Fair this summer. He was brought on to revamp operations and bring a fresh perspective to the fair and he delivered.

"The Ventura County Fair is a long-standing, exemplary events and entertainment organization," Leavitt said.   "I wanted to build on that solid reputation".

Carnival grosses went up substantially, said Barbara Quaid, CEO of the Ventura County Fairgrounds. The fair brought Leavitt in last year for layout help and saw revenue increase $130,000. This summer, Quaid said she brought Leavitt onboard to handle the entire operation and again, the fair saw big revenue gains. Leavitt oversaw the entire carnival, including managing and mapping the grounds and booking the rides, games and food. He also instituted new employee drug testing procedures, changed up employee uniforms and created a new employee break area. Making the fair feel friendly and inviting to event goers was also a top priority for Leavitt.

He focused on midway beautification, created a guest services booth and upped the win ratios in the games, ultimately increasing customer satisfaction and gross sales across the board.

"Chris is easy to work with and has a love and respect for the carnival operators and workers that is in line with our philosophy at the Ventura County Fairgrounds,"¯ Quaid said."The phrase Fair Family becomes a reality when we are able to work with people like Chris Leavitt."¯

In addition to fair coordination, Leavitt also owns and operates Ecash Systems, a reloadable card system that can be used for ride passes, games and concessions, admission, pre-sale tickets, even parking. The system offers real time transactions and gives operators superior tracking and reporting.
