I can't believe it took me until the last day of the fair to be able make a visit, but that is the kind of week it has been.
As always, Drew is first class! I love that they get classic old rides and refurb them to almost new. Their AH helicopters are the best I've seen in person. McDonagh's is very sweet looking from pics I've seen.
Likewise, the AH Sky Fighter, Tubs-O-Fun and the Bulgy-the-Whale (themed as clownfish) were also great looking classic pieces. Oh, and of course their vintage AH Merry-Go-Round.
The Enterprise making its first appearance at this spot was very nice as well.
I just may have to go to Indy for the Marion County Fair to see the entire Show, or close to it anyway.
I was surprised at no Wheel. Even if they don't bring the Seattle Wheel, I would have thought they would have put up their Century Wheel.
I was on the grounds at 3:00 in the afternoon. That means I was there in 92 degree heat, with an index over 100. The midway was very sparse.
I stopped at a food joint along the independant food road leading to the grandstand. I asked the operator how crowds were, and she reported they were doing "half the business of the previous year".
She also said even on the nights where a good crowd was out, spending was tight. I don't know if that is the case with the carnival though.
If Drew comes anywhere close to where you are, you've got to go see them. Very nice carnival!
I've never been "with it", just been an interested observer of carnivals for more than 50 years.
Johnny's United Shows..."A Family Tradition" and "All for Fun, Fun for All".
The carnival of my youth, which had roots that originated in my hometown.
