They closed Magic Harbor in the early 90's I think. I never got to go to it, always went to the Pavilion or Family Kingdom. I vagely remember the Giant Wheel as a kid in the late 80's, when we passed by Magic Harbor back then. Does anyone here know if that Wheel was a Dutch Wheel like Strates Shows has, or made by another manufacturer? That park also had a Sky Diver, not sure where it went to after Magic Harbor closed down. I believe the Corkscrew roller coaster left from there to go to the Pavilion sometime back in the day. That park also had a Scrambler, Log Flume water ride, Haunted House of some sort, & a Galaxi coaster. I'd like to know what kind of amusement park it was and if it was very big? From the road, it didn't look super big, but looks can be deceiving. I know about the area where Magic Harbor once stood, but not exactly the exact location. It's below south Myrtle a little like you're going to Surfside Beach on the left hand side. I just wonder if there are any remnants or remains of a ride from where that park used to be? I'd hope those rides went to another home instead of left behind in a defunct park, rusting away. That wouldn't be good.

According to Roller Coaster Database, Magic Harbor had three roller coasters: a Galaxie, a Wacky Worm, and the Corkscrew. The Corkscrew was moved to the Pavilion. The site is now occupied by a campground or two.

When I was a teenage I collected brochures. I still have one from the 80s of that park.

They had some good rides in there. The Wheel was a Dutch I think, not exactly like Strates, but a euro.

They had some other rides as well, Spider, and such.

They had a lot of problems with that park, I think one of the owners was even shot and killed in a robbery.

Here is a link to some info:

Yes, I vagely remember seeing that Giant Wheel from the highway passing by there in the late 80's. It did look like Strates' Wheel a little from a distance. I think I saw somewhere on the internet in pictures that park had a Sky Diver as well. That could had been the very Sky Diver that sat near Family Kingdom amusement park in the 70's / early 80's when it was called Grand Strand Amusement Park.

My dad was a truck driver and when I was about 11 or so he took me to Myrtle Beach for the first time on a trip. We stayed overnight and he took me down to the park that is now known as Family Kingdom.

I can still remember a little, the train, coaster, Tilt, Scram, that ship was there, but also remember a Himi I think, and maybe a Bobs, but not sure.

I remember a little park, no big coasters, that had only about four or five big rides, one of those being a Reverchon Himalaya. It was on the north end of Myrtle Beach, and I don't remember what it was called.

How many amusement parks did Myrtle Beach have at one time?

I also remember seeing some similiar little corner lot type of parks in and around Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. In fact I remember seeing a Spider on one corner lot, and another Spider not more than a block away.
I've never been "with it", just been an interested observer of carnivals for more than 50 years.
Johnny's United Shows..."A Family Tradition" and "All for Fun, Fun for All".
The carnival of my youth, which had roots that originated in my hometown.

I remember that one in N MB as well, but the only time I saw it was during the winter, so it was closed up and the rides were tore down to some degree. All I remember was seeing a wheel, Holiday Bounce (aka Bubble Bounce), a Chance Twister and a few others.

As far as Gatlinburg, I remember one up on a hill, to the left (as you come into town from Cherokee) with a Yo-Yo and such. I will remember the one in Cherokee, Frontier Land, which was owned by a carnival owner and had some good rides (Wheel, Twister, R-Up, Tilt, Scram, Rok-n-Roll, Steam Train), it was where the casino sits now.

That park in Gatlinburg you're referring to where that Yo Yo Swings sat was called Fun Mountain. It went out of business. Another park that I went to when I was 10 and again when I was 11 or 12 in the early 90's was Magic World in Pigeon-Forge, TN. Magic World had a Very nice looking Eyerly Spider with black tubs that sat out front of the park. There was a nice, tall Eli Bridge Wheel inside the park & I remember riding it, what fun. The park shut down for good in 1994 though. ✌ There's that Jurassic Park Boat Ride attraction that replaced it. I wish Magic World would come back. Most people that couldn't afford Dollywood went to Magic World instead and it ( to me ) was just as good as Dollywood back then. Dollywood has grown over the years though with all kinds of great coasters now & flat rides. The last time I was in Gatlinburg / Pigeon Forge area was the summer of 2009. So yeah, i'm getting the fever of going back again, I miss that area. Myrtle is fun too, but Myrtle doesn't have the coasters like Dollywood has (now days). The only thing Myrtle Beach has now days is that small Ocean Drive Pavilion park in North Myrtle and South Myrtle has those rides at Broadway at the Beach & Family Kingdom, which has that classic Swamp Fox wooden coaster & Chance Giant Wheel sitting out by Ocean Blvd. Growing up and first few years going to Myrtle, I remembered seeing another small park up in North Myrtle. I remember it had a Cobra, Scat, Rock o Plane (I think), & the kiddie Schiff Coaster. It may have also had a Reverchon Himalaya sitting over by the Scat, I was only 6 or 7 at the time. ...back in the mid to late 80's.
