The wait for the 2005 Florida State Fair midway is almost over. I have recently contacted Lizz Harmon of the Florida State Fair Authority and of HarmonTampa, Inc. Lizz has told me that the finalized list will be available to me within 10 days or so. The reason for the wait is that the contracts were being finalized and updates were being made to the list. From what I hear, the midway will be quite interesting this year since Ed Gregory and the United Shows of America will not be part of the fair.

In fact, I spoke with the operator of the Scorpion on the last Saturday of the fair and she told me that All Star Amusements, Mid America Shows and Reithoffer Shows would be making a bid for the contract for the 2005 Florida State Fair. She claimed that Mid America Shows and Reithoffer Shows would be battling out for the contract. That seems to not be true since the midway will be completely independent.

I believe if Reithoffer, Conklin or Wade held the contract, the fair would be in much better shape. And one other thing, what happened with Conklin and Wade, they used to provide a lot of rides for the fair. If Conklin is comming this year, I wish they would bring their Tidal Wave, Doppell Looping, G-Force, Holiday Bounce and/or Crazy Flip. If Wade is comming this year, I wish they would bring their Twister, Rainbow and/or Space Loop.

I will be very suprised to see the shape of Reithoffer's Flip "N" Out, Reithoffer's Tornado, Bluegrass' Moonraker and Farrow's Twister. In fact, I have never rode Reithoffer's Tornado before, is it better than Farrow's Twister, I hope so. And the Moonraker better give one heck of a ride this year.

The FSF's unreasonable (IMHO) demands in the contract bid package for 2005 were what chased all the bidders away. Given the semi-independent midway arrangement last year, the fair chose to go the independent route.

Don't expect Conklin (NAME) this year. The preliminary list included Wade, Reithoffer, Farrow, Strates, and others... see this post:

Moonraker should give one heck of a ride... it's been undergoing some major work this year.

I think it's also going to be awhile before Mid-America makes another Florida run again, since winter 2003/04 wasnt a good time for them.

If I am not mistaken, the last weekend of the Indiana State Fair overlaps the first weekend of the CNE in Toronto, and my guess is, since Farrow just signed a long-term deal (runs through 2013 I believe) with Indiana, most, if not just about all, of their equipment would play Indianapolis. Just a guess.

Does anyone have classic photos of the Florida State Fair from the 80s and 90s? I am just wondering since I would love to see how the fair looked during those days. And by the way, is there any photo sites of United Shows of America? I really miss that carnival.

You won't see any Conklin Coasters, they will be at the South Florida Fair which ends only days before FSF begins. [;)]

Sausageseller, I hope you are reffering to the United Shows of America comment. I have read many articles and seen many stories regarding the business practices of Ed Gregory and the United Shows of America. That whole incident about the United Shows of America playing at the White House, that was something else. But as a person not understanding the carnival business at the time when United Shows was providing the midway, I did not know the scandals going on with Gregory Entertainment.

Those were the days when the FSF had United Shows, Conklin, Wade, Reithoffer, Bluegrass, Strates and Murphy Bros all provided the midway rides. But I cannot wait to see the battle of the Flip "N" Out and Space Loop; as well as, the Tornado and the Twister. But I am sad by the Crazy Dance not at the fair, I miss that ride. I wish that Wade would bring their Twister "Crazy Dance" to the fair. For some odd reason, I seem to like the Crazy Dance and the Super Loop On Top, but I can claim that Soriani & Moser did have some killer rides out there. More Soriani & Moser rides on the road would make one hell of a midway.

Some of the pieces that I would love to see at the FSF all at once would be:

Super Loop On Top
Loop On Top
Top Star Tour
Sombrero
Polyp
Tornado Adventure
Energy Storm 5

But I can settle for the following which I am looking forward to this year:

Enterprise
Rainbow
Moonraker
Tornado
Twister
Space Loop

Those rides will bring some long lost memories of the days when the FSF was cool.

Wade's "Twister" (Crazy Dance) primarily travels with the first unit (about 95% of the time), and being that the first unit plays Texas at the time of the FSF, the Twister will most likely be in Texas.
