For anyone who has ever been to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, then you know who Tom Carnegie is. For those who haven't been there, Tom was the PA announcer for the track until his retirement a few years ago. Tom passed away this week at the age of 91.

Tom's distinctive voice was as much a recognizable feature of the speedway as any other tangible piece of the structure itself. Tom was at the speedway for 61 years and for the first twenty, wasn't even paid for it.

Growing up in Indiana, I also got to listen to Tom call state tournament high school basketball games. He called the real life "Hoosiers" game when he covered the championship game where Milan High School beat powerhouse Muncie Central for the State Title. Tom was featured in "Hoosiers" as the PA announcer for the championship game in the movie.

Tom was a true legend in this state. Job well done Tom, rest in peace.
I've never been "with it", just been an interested observer of carnivals for more than 50 years.
Johnny's United Shows..."A Family Tradition" and "All for Fun, Fun for All".
The carnival of my youth, which had roots that originated in my hometown.
