Laura emailed me this morning.

She said her Father CJ jr. bought the rights to the ride from a German showman, and gave them to Chance to redesign. Mr. S got a % of the first 30 built.

She said the man that sold the rights to her father, went out bought a fast car and promply killed himself on the Autobahn.

I've also heard that the original ride had a center turret gear from a German WWII tank.

On a similar note, our first ride ever was a very basic carousel whose center drive was made from a WWII bomber machine gun turret.

Ah, the information I got was from an old Stampede Program book promoting the new RAS midway attractions for that year. They did that every year back then, I also seen the promo pages for the Calypso, Space Wheels and the Velare (Seattle) Giant Wheel. I just assumed they told the truth back then, lol.
