I am looking for information on the old West Coast Shows. In the 1950s, it was owned by Mike Krekos, and in the 1960s by Bobby Cohn. Anybody know when they folded, or the disposition of their equipment? In the late 1960s to 1972, they had some rides at the dying Playland-at-the-Beach in San Francsico.

One of our drivers is something of a carnival historian. He says Bobby Cohn ran out of operating capital in 1972 when his financial backer decided that its money could make more money elsewhere at a lower risk. With no start-up money Cohn was forced to sell off most of the equipment but retained a few pieces and formed a partnership with Willie Marcus in the Royal West Shows. The bulk of the WCS equipment went to several ride brokers on consignment. Most of it wound up in Mexico, Canada the U.K. and Europe.Cohn and Marcus split up in 1977 and Cohn went to work for Amusements of America as their general agent. Hope this helps.[8)].

The 1967 movie "She Freak" was filmed on West Coast Shows. A porno film maker, David F. Friedman, produced this movie just because he loved carnivals. The producer is seen on the bally of the sideshow in the movie. There is some very interesting interviews with Friedman on the new DVD. If you like great shots of rides in motion, this film is for you. Great shots of the Sky Diver and Sky Wheel. Also lighted shots of the entire midway at night. West Coast Shows was a big show. Although I live in Virginia, I remember a lot of articles in AB about this show in the 1960's.

If you are not famalier with this "B" movie, it's sort of a take off on Todd Browning's origional "Freaks" movie of the 1930's.

Great Carnival movie. I recomend it highly. You can order it from Amazon.

West Coast Shows was bought out by Larry and Joann Davis, called it Carnival Time Shows,Larry passed a few years ago, Joann is doing great, she kept the domain name and actually Pete Pederson started West Coast Shows up again, his dad was Wolf Pederson, known very well as Cohn's electrician for many years, and I see Willie and Faye Marcus's family all the time,Faye is amazing, she hasn't changed much,Willie has been gone for awhile but she still comes out to the lot.
I use to work for Ed and Leslie Dillman in the office on one of Bobby's units 60's and 70's, I was married to Davey Locken, he moved the Valare skywheel for Cohn, what is so odd is I am running the office for Pete and I grew up on Kraft Shows and now West Coast Shows has been reborn, amazing how things come back in a full circle, we too would also like any stories that the carnies can remember from back then, send your prayers to the new West Coast Shows, 2008 is our 2nd season.
