I rode the Rok N Roll on Casino Pier in the early 90s. It was set up where the Bertizon Rock & Roll matterhorn now stands. Its an attractive ride however the ride it gave I found to be boring and too dizzy. It was like a rock-0-plane but without the control, view, and speed.

Anderson Amusements (Ansonia, OH) used to operate a Rok'n'Roll or Wagon Wheeler for years. I do not know the particular version, but the last time I saw it, they had just gone through it and refurbed almost the entire ride. It looked great for it's age. Someone may have more background as to which model it was though -- it ran from a gas engine, and had very little lights (by design, not elimination). The monkey-heads on the ride HEAVILY resemble the Herschell design used on their Carousels from about the same period, with only slight differences. I can't remember much more about the ride, but maybe that will be enough to tell just what it was.

It was an A.H. Looper, Chris Anderson told me he traded it in to Chuck Woodke last year on a new ride.

Thanks kadoty -- I was pretty sure it was the AH version after thinking about it a little, but still wasn't 100%. I'd only seen the ride twice, and it's been over 5 years since I last saw it.

If it looked like an AH piece then it probably was. Sounds like the looper.

The other 2 were definitely Chance.

The design element in the W'Wheeler I was referring to was the introduction of a CPU to rides. That was a major move but didn't go over so well. You had to call in an expensive tech whenever the system crashed. I thought the tubs were homely and suited for kids.

I have an excellent of a Rok painted by the Wizard that I will post later.

Wade Shows used to have an Allan Herschell Looper. It was always painted green and white. I used to see it at the Michigan State Fair years and years ago. Interesting looking ride, to say the least. [:)]

Anyone here remember the Chance Rok N Roll with the "Hamster cages" that you sit in and they roll around? How many were made and when did Chance stop production of these?

[I rode one of those at Wyondot Lake, back in the 60's, but the park belonged to Floyd Godding. Godding's Zoo amusement park. It had had a pedal on the floor you pushed to make the cages roll. It was an intense ride in it's day/quote]

The rok n roll's (or similar rides or variations on that) that i have seen pictures of (unfortunatly i have only seen pictures) have a 6 inch wide seatbelt! as a restraint, its a seatbelt with a buckle but there are holes punched in the belt and i am assuming you adjust the belt that way.

Trivia: You can install a Rok-n-Rol seat belt latch upside down, don't ask me how I know.
