Can someone spread some light on Royal American Shows. I know little to nothing about them and would like to have some knowledge in the history of the show.

Thanks,

Yeah shed a little light on it for me too.....I know by history they held the contract here in Pensacola for awhile. They also had an unbelieveable route in their heyday.

Crazy Spin, they had a few more than four State Fairs here's the basic route:

Florida State Fair, Tampa
Cotton Carnival, Memphis
Spring Festival, St. Louis
Shrine Jubelee, Davenport Ia
Provenicial Expo, Brandon Manatoba
Red River Expo, Winnepeg, Manatoba
Calgary Stampede, Calgary Alberta
Klondyke Days, Edmonton, Alberta
Buffalo Days, Regina Saskatawan (sp?)
Wisconsin State Fair
Minnisota State Fair
Mid America Fair
Kansas State Fair
Oklahoma State Fair
Arkansas State Fair
Mississippi State Fair
Louisiana State Fair
Then back to Tampa for a long over due break

Show moved on 77-90 double length rail cars in two sections

The show lost the canadian dates in 1975 or 76 ( I forgot)

Lost Oklahoma State fair in 68

Lost Arkansas State fair in 78

Lost Wisconsin, Mississippi and Florida State fairs in 81

Gave up the train in 81

worked with Link Shows in 82 played Illinois, Oklahoma and Alabama state fairs with them that year only with 15 rides.

Picked up Ozark Empire fair in Springfidld MO in 83

Lost Ozark Empire, Minnissota, Kansas and Louisiana State fairs in 94

They tried to make it for a couple of more years with a smaller operation and county fairs but grew tired of all the hassles

Show closed in 97

I hope that helps

Ask if you have any more

I do know they lost the "A" route in Canada because of a tax scandal that the owner got accused of (They never really got convicted of it....)which in turn lost them that route (To Conklin Shows).

Okay, C-Spin, time to see just how much attention you have been paying to the discussions on the board. A one question quiz.

Since you are asking about Royal American Shows, there is a signature, one of a kind piece that they travelled with, that was back on the road in 2003. Name the ride. Bonus points for the name of the show that owns the ride now, and more bonus points for the locations that it appeared at in 2003. Good luck, C-Spin!

Now I know a bunch of you know exactly what I'm talking about, but please let C-Spin figure it out for himself![:D] Thanks!

You only attempted to answer half the question. Yep, Space Wheels, and it it is "Velare." But what about the other part of cny-chris's question C'Spin? lol [;)]

I remember the year they played The Alabama State Fair with Murphy Brothers. It was one of the biggest fairs they ever had. There were some duplications though, I do remember 2 Sky Divers, & at the back-end Murphy's Sky Wheel was right next to the Space Wheels. The Seattle Wheel was there too.
