have totally bolloxed up my machine . having real trouble even getting to here.
heres a partial list of things wrong:
MSASCui.exe the dependency or group failed to start. cant fix this

windows SQM consolidater has stopped working .... no clue

windows defender interface has stopped working.... cant fix

microsoft automated tech support has stopped working.... will run for about a second

windows stand alone installer .... encountered an error ( 0x80240009)
had to use this because regular update cant/wont "see" updates i know are needed and it wont 'install".

my optical drive has stopped working... device manager says it is working fine and needs no updates for drivers. in fact it says ALL my drivers are up to date. optical drive seems to want to start... makes a clicking sound, the light comes on and off then says to put in media. have a "official" windows update disc in the drive.

connection status unknown... even when online- fixed this through a manual registry "fix" i found online.

windows media player wont start.... fixed this through a manual registry "fix" i found online.

have ran , from the command line, sfc/scannow and came up with "encountered problems cant fix".

am still finding "new" issues everytime i try to do something.

have had to go to my recovery partition to reinstall vista. now cant use the upgrade disc to get back to win7. and am singing the blues, i figure with this many things "wrong" that there has to be an underlying problem. any ideas, anyone? am going to go post this on some other tech sites but would rather hear any help from one of us, will check back here before i post elsewhere.

at the moment i'm "running" a very crippled version of vista home premium x64

heres a partial list of the cbs logs. before anyone says "recovery disc" ..... i forgot them in some motel about 3 months ago[:I][:(!]. i'm seeing on the following log corrupted files. any idea where i could get just these files and how would i install them? thanks for any help

POQ 125 ends.

You are stuck with Vista x64 correct? Is this a 'over-install' of a Win7 partition or is it a clean install of Vista?

Stuck like chuck. didnt realize how much i'd come to like/depend on win7! feel like i might as well be using a block of stone and a chisel as to use this machine now. but to get to your point.... yes vista home premium x64.(from the recovery partition, not a disc)

crashed my system pretty bad, figured i'd just do another re-install, no big deal ... have installed countless times on my and others machines from xp sp1 to win7. thought i'd just do an upgrade this time due to the fact that i'd erased my system image (yes and forgot to make another[:I][:o)][:I][B)]) ,do a system image THEN do another clean install of 7. from the time the first of the vista screens came up i started having problems. only now have it in a halfway stable condition. am almost afraid to do anything for fear of crashing again. black screens of death. total system failures/crashes ,app.s and programs not running at all or starting and crashing immediately.
think i screwed the recovery partition. more "encountered an error and need to close" pop-ups than i've seen altogether before now.

on the bright side......... well not so dark anyway... i've learned more cmd commands than i ever thought i would. have ran all diagnostics from the command line (geez i've HAD to!) sfc/scannow multiple times. have also done more registry "fixes" than ever... used to dabble in the regedit but i've been doing full blown repairs in it all day. surfing for answers/tips/hints/tutorials here and at the library and have gotten it to where it at least functions halfway. slow , creaky, flickering, and as i said crash after crash after crash.

i'm saying to h@^^ with my data now, just want my machine back.

i have found no pointers to anything like just getting a few files back to insert in whats left (i guess) of my recovery partition. oh... and my toshiba support was over 2 months ago. go figure, now they want serious money and no guarantee.

any ideas at all? i'm open to anything and everything right now.
oh, and thank you

Your machine came with Vista x64 on a recovery partition and the partition might be blown. Do you have any CD's of Vista at all or Win7 that are bootable? Do you have any means of being able to burn a CD image? Are you running in Safe Mode? I will be up for a short while here but have to get up for work at 5am -- was stuck on the side of the road watching an accident or I would've gotten back to you sooner --

Are you able to boot into Safemode with the version that is running now? (as the machine is starting up, try tapping the f8 key multiple times until a menu pops up offering you boot options) -- If you can boot into safemode, there is a chance that the CD drive will read (because the drivers are in 'default' configuration -- if that works, we can pull files from the CD and then force an HD based install so that it can read the setup files on reboot without needing the DVD.

it wont let me use my optical drive at all. just back from the store with a usb external dvd-rom. am going to try to at least finish/redo the upgrade.
as i was backing up my drivers i noticed my wifi driver is not signed. am going to try and find a realtek SIGNED driver because i know win7 will not permit unsigned drivers to be installed. have found a couple of workarounds to that but both are way, way registry intensive and want to find an easier way.
on the bright side...... machine mostly stable now (after much much much work), only one crash today[:D]!still finding things i cant do i.e.wmp is not working, wmc is not working, optical drive is not working and numerous programs and applications not starting and/or loading and just vanishing. speakers not working either, sometimes having trouble running as an admin.!!! (cant figure that one out at all.)
will be surfing ,as much as i can, for awhile to see what i can find. you know anyway to .... halfway easily at least, install an unsigned driver in win7?
thank you for your advice and input s.s. it's appreciated more than i can tell you.
