Yes, people just think they can be oblivious to all things, and that nothing will hurt them, these are the people that talk on the cellphone without a hands free set while driving and dont wear their seatbelt, they are always trying to push the limit and they do the same with amusement rides despite the many warnings, then they cause an accident and the industry gets a bad rep from it, the industry has all the warning signs and safety measures taken its just the people that dont want to listen to the warnings, they think the warnings do not apply to them because they are invincible

I think it's part stupidity and part because they are ignorant. They don't think they can actually get hurt....as stupid as it sounds. They just don't think about it...they abuse things everywhere...and they just think they can abuse whatever they want to and it wont come back and bite them.
Here in Michigan we have a rider responsibilty law, as do quite a few states now. Basically says you can be prosecuted if you fail to obey the safety rules of an amusement ride, whether at at traveling carnival or a fixed site amusement park.

Some people just do not care what the rules are or what the operator tells them. They keep doing what they are not supposed to, then get angry at the operator when they are told to get off the ride, or worse, they get hurt and sue the carnival for their stupidity.

I once saw the operator on Pugh Shows' ThunderBolt tell a couple of teenage boys to stop rocking the tub, they kept at it, he told them again, they kept at it, he stopped the ride, pointed to their tub, and told the guys on the deck to make them get off the ride. They started hollering that they paid their money, they were not doing anything. And the really stupid part of the whole scene? They walked off, and got right back in line! Sheesh.... (the operator saw them in line, shut the music off, and asked them what they thought they were doing, that there "fun was all done." And made them leave. One kid hollered he was going to complain, and the operator told him to go right ahead. I got this all on video. Heh....)[xx(]

Last Saturday, the operator on the same ThunderBolt, now with Mid America Shows, made two young girls get off the ride for the same reason at the Universal Mall spot. They got off laughing, they thought it was funny. What a joke. You disobey a safety rule, get asked to leave the ride, and you laugh about it? Sheesh.... [xx(]

I know that Cedar Point a few years ago or so had an incident where a guy was on the White Water Landing flume ride, and was dragging his hand in the water, trying to splash others in the boat, and was warned by a ride observer to keep his hands inside the boat, twice in fact, and did not listen, and got his hand smashed between the boat and the wall, and sued the park for his injuries. Funny thing is, someone had videotaped the whole incident and turned the tape in to the park after they saw that they guy sued the park, and they used the tape in court, and the guy lost. Plus he was banned from the park.

Why are some people such idiots when it comes to carnival and amusement park rides???? [xx(]

"Don't go around saying the world owes you a living. The world owes you nothing. It was here first." -- Mark Twain
The OABA did a ride safety video a couple years back that was tailored to school age kids....I've got a copy of it...but I wonder how they distributed it?
the state of nc ride inspection program is trying to implement some things on ride safety. one of those is to supply each fair with rider responsibility signs to be posted at all the entrance gates, in english and spanish. another idea is to have a coloring book with ride safety to be distributed in the elementary schools and each fair have a safety coloring contest. they are also going to require safety signs on each ride. it will take some time to get everything in place (as money allows) but with the formation of a ride safety advisory committee there is now an avenue for fairs, carnivals and others to have input with the ride safety and inspection program in nc.
Well it makes sense to have an amusement ride safety week since they have other kinds of prevention weeks, and unless the children are living in a hole i would imagine ALL of them will be on amusement rides this summer

However you can drill it into their heads all you want, when they see their friends rocking the seat on a ride, they will most likely do it too, if they see their friends putting their hands up on a ride, they will also do it.

What needs to happen is strict enforcement of the no rocking the seat rule, if someone is rocking at the top of the wheel, bring their seat down and escort them out of the park without a refund, or if its a carnival ride bring the seat down and usher them off the ride without a refund for not following the rules.

I dont see rocking too much on the eli wheel but once in a while you will get a stupid person who doesnt heed the warnings.

The problem is most people take amusement rides for granted and believe they are safe devices no matter how you are behaving on them, in reality amusement rides are large machines just like a chainsaw that should be used with care both by operators and the guests riding them, and since they are large machines they can also hurt you if you do not heed all warnings.

The same can be said for weedeaters, chainsaws, lawnmowers, tractors...even common kitchen appliances....so why do people NOT use common sense when on amusement rides?

Because common sense is not so common anymore helllooooo!!![;)][:D]
Time?? Is it the wheel that turns,or the track it leaves behind???

Yeah, most youngens don't heed the warnings of the rides or the operators. Used to deal with that on the Eli when Riverland was running, just ask Justin James. [;)]

The memory/story that first comes to me was that unfortunate day at MIS in Brooklyn, MI when we set up with Motor State Shows and Regehr when a girl fell out of the ferris wheel seat there and her leg got caught up in the drive cables near the motor! I didn't actually witness it but I remember the ambulance and the chaos. I think that was the straw that broke Motor State's back. I thought I recalled seeing that ferris wheel running at Belleville the following week and it still creeps me out. [:0]
Have you paid your dues Jack? Yeah I paid my dues. The check is in the mail.
