The Toboggan is still at CLP but something broke on it and they don't have the money or the will to fix it. When I was there this year it was still covered in X-mas lights zip tied to the rails and looked pretty much completely abandoned. Word on the street is when they have the $$ they are going to tear it down, which you would think would be easy being a portable ride and all, but I guess not.
There is a fundraising effort underway to raise $125,000 to get the Blue Streak running. One estimate says it'll take $200,000 to do the whole job.

Is the Toboggan still at CLP?
They had the Turbo from Old Indiana too at one time, but couldn't get parts to fix it.
I saw the Bug at Chippewa lake running when I played an Oktoberfest date there in 79.

Apparently they have mothballed the ride for future use.

Idora Park in Youngstown had a non-Bug turtle kiddie ride with a small diameter steel wheel on sweeps at the auction in the 80's. I bid but was not the winner.

No the Blue Streak was not running all last season. I talked to Lisko in Hershey and he said they need to do some work to the curves of the track, and perhaps could get it up & running this coming season. Then do work to it each of the next 3 years to total restoration. It is a great ride! I rode it several years ago and it has a wicked first drop. The ACE people are all gung ho to get it running again. I really like that park. It is real pretty with a deep natural lake, old hotel (was being renovated when I was there), lots of trees, a neat train which they got running last year.
I was there in late May and it looked good. It is off the beaten path and a little difficult to find (needs better signage) and it competes with Waldameer in Erie (a short distance away) and with Kennywood to an extent. It needs to survive. It is owned by a trust and there are a lot of people with summer homes around the lake (with $$) that want to see it survive. So hopefully it will. It's had some tough times and a former owner who ran it into bankruptcy ( I think he is jail for his financial dealings). He really screwed it up. But it is still there and it looks good compared to a few years ago.
If you compare the pics from a few years ago to the 2009 ones you will see some improvements in paint, landscaping, cleanliness etc.

the bare open area is where the old Ballroom used to be. A teenager arsonist burned it to the ground and some of the surrounding buildings too. Very sad. The lamp posts across the street from there were partially melted from the heat of the blaze. I think it happened the winter before. The game and food buildings near it were damaged heavily and can't be used. They will have to tear the rest of them down. It was one of those great old wooden ballrooms like Cedar Point has, and Waldameer has.

Sue,
was the Blue Streak running?
Wow, that Tempest is probably the most unique of them all. Does anyone know if that was once at a "story book" type park. It looks like it would fit. I was starting to type that I have never seen a Tempest (or Hustler) in a park setting but then I thought of the Palace in Asbury Park, NJ. They had one inside their building. It is still unusual.

I would like to get to this park. It looks like a nice underused place. I guess they are sandwhich between a few other big parks so they often get lost. I have a project out that way and am hoping I get out there in the summer to make a side trip.
It is what you learn, after you know it all, that counts.
Nice set of photos, Sue. Not to change the topic subject, but that is one interesting theme on the Tempest.

Hershey Park installed "The Bug" in the 1930s. It was removed in 1982 [V] in order to install a wave swinger. [xx(] This is according to the book I have. I would have rather seen the bug. The book states it was difficult to remove the concrete from the bug but it was removed because it was costly to maintain.

Hershey has a kiddie bug:

Seabreeze in Rochester, NY has a kiddie Bug called "Flying Turtles".

I'm trying to remember if Conneaut Lake has the kiddie one too. Did they get the adult Bug running last year when they reopened the park?
