Actually not the entire ride collection was one-of-a-kind, there were antiques (in mint condition) like the Roto Whip, Sky fighter, Midge-o-racer,Polyp, the German Carousel and of course the Little Dipper Coaster, the trains, and antique MGR, but many other rides can be found if one wanted to "duplicate" Kiddieland. The news is reporting that 6 rides and the trains have been sold already but the buyers haven't been identified.
It'd be great for some of the local shows to be able to purchase a piece or two from the park. Unfortunately, most of the rides are very old and are park models - nothing that is really easily moveable. You could always buy the tilt and scrambler and rack them I guess.

It was nice to see a few shows get some equipment from the Santas Village Auction a few years back. Windy City bought the Yo Yo and did a sweet job restoring it and Alpine bought the tilt from there (have not seen it yet).

It's a frustrating, helpless feeling to see a beloved park like Kiddieland be inexplicably destroyed like this. There have been rumors circulating for years about this happening, but no organized effort came about to ward this off. People just sat back assuming that this could never happen and Kiddieland would always be there. At least there is some effort to preserve what you can of Coney Island. In the news of Kiddieland's demise the local media refers it as "one of the last amusement parks in Chicagoland". Make no mistake about it, Kiddieland was THE last amusement park in a metro area like this. Six Flags is halfway to Milwaukee and for some a two hour drive. Hardly a local amusement park.
Great clip, still sad that its gone for good!

I send my condolences to everyone who loved and will miss Kiddieland. Having experienced the sorrowful closing of Coney Island's Astroland, I can feel your pain. Now we're finding out for certain what was behind the loss of Kiddieland's lease. Costco has signed a letter of intent to purchase the property! There's also some photos of the park in this article:

I didn't see the Kiddieland sign (pictured in the Sun Times piece) in the Norton auction photos. Does anyone know if it will be sold or not? The Astroland sign/gate was taken down and is in storage and one star was donated to the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum. Sometimes the new tenant/owner tries to capitalize on the nostalgia factor by incorporating the old signage. The old King Cole figure on the sign for Enchanted Forest Storybook Park in Maryland comes to mind. It became the sign for the Enchanted Forest Shopping Mall!

I just got my auction flyer from Norton, and , as ive never been there, i was supprised to all the great "vintage" rides in that park. Beautiful looking rides, museum pieces ! Anyone happen to have any pics or links that shows more of what the park was like?
Thanks for that info, albeit very bad news. Almost everyone in the Chicago area has hoped Kiddieland could be relocated intact to some other metro location. Doesn't look good now.
Looks like Norton Auctioneers will be auctioning off the park in pieces on November 24th at 10AM. http://www.nortonauctioneers.com/upcoming.htm

Thanks for sharing.

At least it looks like this park was closed in honor. Not like the many parks that have closed where it was evident the park deteriorated to the point closing was the only choice.
It is what you learn, after you know it all, that counts.
