KMG Releases New Surf Ride for 2018
On May 3rd, 2017, KMG released a design concept for a new ride designed to travel on one semi-trailer. The new ride, who's factory model name is "Surf Ride". Since, the ride has generated a lot of interest and two models have already been sold.
The first ”Surf Ride” will make its debut in Germany under showman Mike Klinge. The ride will make its first test runs under supervision of the German TüV inspectors in mid July and by the end of the second week of August (2018) the ride will be delivered to the owner for its first use.
This first Surf Ride will have a super hero theme and is named X-Force.
A second Surf Ride has been sold to Australian showman Broderick Pavier. This ride is named Wipe Out and will have a surf theme. The Wipe Out will be ready for delivery in October and it will make its debut at the Winter Wonderland Fair at Hide Park, London. After the Christmas event the ride will be shipped to the owner in Australia, where it will be added to the owner’s ride arsenal, which already contains a KMG Speed, Inversion, Discovery and Freak Out.
Both traveling showmen and parks worldwide have shown serious interest in the Surf Ride because it appeals to a wide range of riders. "Taller kids and older riders such as parents or grandparents will enjoy this ride to the max!", said Peter Theunisz of KMG.
The appeal of the ride is not just in its inclusiveness in height, it also is thrilling without over the top loops and it has a rider-friendly restraint system. The motions are controlled by a pre-programmed, automated system so riders will get the most unique and enjoyable ride possible.
The Surf Ride is constructed on one semi-trailer and can be set up in approx. 30 minutes by 2 people. Once the platform is lowered the counterweights can be lifted and the ride is ready to be used. Between the two rotating sweeps the main center platform holds two gondolas seating eight people each, which can spin clockwise and counterclockwise while the platform is in motion. The gondolas always stay upright. Once the sweeps start rotating, a gentle swinging motion will occur. When the gondolas start to spin slowly, while the sweeps are rotating, riders will experience the forces associated with a great thrill ride..
When teenagers and youngsters want more active and spinning action, the operator can adjust the speed of each motion separately. KMG can provide 3 different pre-programmed ride cycles according the buyer’s preferences.
The Surf Ride can be ordered either with a scenery (backdrop) or exit platform at the backside of the ride.
"The Surf Ride is a new style family ride that will be a great new addition to any midway, carnival or family park", said Theunisz.. "The Surf Ride is a ride which has never been built or designed before. It is a complete new ride that your customers and visitors will certainly like!", he added.
The good news for buyers is the fact that a Surf Ride is priced less than comparable KMG rides on one semi-trailer with the same capacity! KMG is inviting interested parties to see the new ride in action at KMG's Netherlands facility before it is delivered to the new owner. The next available delivery slot is mid 2019.
