The future of Playworld Amusements is up in the air. Jeff Brady, the carnival's owner/operator, said in a brief phone call that he will wait until after the season is over to make a decision whether to sell the show or continue running the business in 2014.

Playworld's final date is the Upper South Carolina State Fair, Oct. 18-31 in Easley, near Greenville.

"I haven't got that far along myself," Brady said. "Everybody has been saying one thing or another but no decision has been made."

Over the past several months, it has been rumored that Brady plans to sell the carnival or "park it," industry sources said. In addition, Playworld has listed several rides for sale on used ride websites.

One sign points to Playworld potentially coming off the road. North American Midway Entertainment officials confirmed they have been negotiating with Brady to book equipment at some fair dates next season. Danny Huston, North American Midway's co-owner, described the deal as a partnership between the two operations. "We will be working with him on some fairs," Huston said

Playworld has 50 rides and attractions. It has a strong fair route in addition to booking equipment at some of the largest fairs in the country such as the Minnesota State Fair and State Fair of Texas. The carnival is currently playing a string of fairs in North Carolina. In Dallas, Kyle Brady, Jeff's son, is running the show's Cliffhanger, Air Raid and Rave at the independent midway.

Jeff Brady has been involved in the carnival business for over 30 years, including 29 years with Playworld.
