Don Pierson passed away Thursday, June 9, 2011 after 90 years of a joyful, full and entertaining life.  Don's death marks the passing of an era of the great "show" people in the carnival industry.   Don was the last surviving founder of the Greater Tampa Showmen's Association.  His life was abundantly filled with loving family, friends, and the millions of people he entertained on the great carnival midways around America over the past seventy years.  His friends were as colorful as his life, ranging from the “Flying” Zacchinis and Elvis Presley to “Thousand Face Foxy” and “Middle of the Road Shorty.”  As much as Don loved being a carnie and life "on the road," it did not match his love for his family.  Most cherished is his beloved wife, Gloria, who survives Don and who shared the road and Don's dreams for over 64 years of marriage.   Don will be greatly missed by his loving daughters, Teresa Caddick and Jenifer Turanchik, his son-in-laws, Ged Caddick and Ed Turanchik, and three grandchildren, Pierson Caddick and Laura Jean and John Winston Turanchik.   He has moved on to join his eldest daughter, Stevi Jo Pierson, who preceded him in death at the age of 24.  Don also proudly served his country in the Navy during WWII.  A service will be held for Don at Christ the King Catholic Church at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 15, 2011.  Family and friends will gather afterwards at noon at the Greater Tampa Showmen's Club at the corner of Willow and Cass Street to celebrate his life.    In lieu of flowers, Don’s family suggests contributions to the Greater Tampa Showmen’s Association.
