Toronto - After a great weekend of events for the Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies (OAAS), most left with a smile and few extra thoughts on what can be improved for the upcoming season. Seminars about food, safety, agriculture and entertainment were full of delegates from the over 200 provincial fairs. The event was held February 19 through 21 at Fairmont Royal York Hotel in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Thousands of people attend the convention from all walks of life. Carnival and concession companies represented; each fair board has delegates including an ambassador from each group. Various entertainers make exhibit in the trade show in hopes to gain some new business. This year the Showmen's League of America Canadian chapter celebrated its 50th Golden anniversary. Wednesday night they celebrated its outgoing president's dinner. On Thursday night the Showmen's League of America Canadian Chapter celebrated honored president Jennifer O,Neill from Carter shows and welcomed the incoming president for 2009 for his second presidency, Billy Gordon, "Billy G" from GTA midways. The night was filled with games and other ceremonies including the final curtain call. The crowd was silent as the names of fellow show people who had passed away in the last year were read. Two names of special prominence were the tragic loss in July of 2007 president Brian Terry and one of this year's "Show people of the year for 2008", Ozzie Mostowy. A moment of silence was held for all. Ozzie's grandson came to accept his late grandfather's award. The other person awarded the "Show people of the year for 2008" award was Erin Cuthbertson. Friday was spent at the tables of many carnivals looking to fill the few openings they had left in the season. Most of the carnivals in Ontario had a hospitality suite to entertain prospective new clients as well as current clients who were interested in relaxing and enjoying a beverage and snack. Special mention was made of the Classic Amusements Company who hosted the after party to the Thursday night ball. The party was hosted by 2nd vice president Geordie Todd and Classic Amusements Owner Bruce Brock. On Friday night the O.A.A.S hosted its dinner which featured Canadian country music star Beverley Mahood. As the convention cam to an end, most tried to leave early Saturday as Ontario was to expected to get hit with a massive snow storm. 2009 Slate Canadian Chapter The Showmen's League of America President: Billy Gordon 1st Vice President: Dan Campbell 2nd Vice President: Geordie Todd 3rd Vice President: Pud Lewis Treasurer: Robert Weatherill
