Detroit--Wade Shows, the carnival that has provided the midway for the Michigan State Fair for over 50 years, sent a letter Friday to the State of Michigan withdrawing their bid from the midway Request For Proposal (RFP) process. "It was a very difficult decision for me and for my company", said Frank Zaitshik, owner of Wade Shows. "I have provided the midway for 28 years as owner of Wade Shows and spent another 5 years prior to that as a concessionaire so the decision was not taken lightly", he said. Wade Shows cited economic circumstances not necessary related to Michigan's economy as the purpose for their withdrawal. "Steve Jenkins, the fair's manager has done an outstanding job ", said Zaitshik. Zaitshik added that when it became apparent that the fair was going to need a disproportionate amount of money from the midway company, he decided that due to the these circumstances, it would be best for his company to pursue other projects. "When we look at the numbers, I have to consider what is best for my company, employees, concessionaires and other events", he said. "Unfortunately, in this case, that meant withdrawing our proposal for consideration for the Michigan State Fair contract", he concluded. Zaitshik said he was very thankful for his many years at the fair, working with several managers and administrations. "If the economic situation at the fair changes, I would consider returning", said Zaitshik. "Who knows what the future holds? I wish them the best".
