Chicago, IL -The Showmen's League of America will commemorate the 100th anniversary of Showmen's Rest and pay tribute to the victims of the Hagenbeck-Wallace Circus on this the 100th year of the horrific train wreck. Services will take place May 17, 2018 at Woodlawn Cemetery, 7750 W. Cermak Road, Forest Park, IL 60130.

Under the direction of Past President John B. Warren, his officers and the members of The Showmen's League of America, the parcel of land now known as Showmen's Rest was acquired. This purchase was made between 1917 and 1918. This, the final resting place for many of our organizations members, is located within Woodlawn Cemetery.  The Memorial Program will be at "Showmen's Rest" to honor the vision of our forefathers to provide this place of internment and commemorate those of our organizations that are laid to rest here and elsewhere. We will also pay tribute to the members of the Hagenbeck-Wallace Circus who were laid to rest in Showmen's Rest as a result of the horrific train wreck of June 22, 1918.

"It is a fitting tribute to our history that we honor our brethren with such a wonderful service." said Guy Leavitt, 2018 Showmen's League President and owner of Ray Cammack Shows.  We will begin assembling at the Woodlawn Cemetery Chapel at 11:00 am and start with a buffet style lunch at 11:30 am. We will move to the site of Showmen's Rest where Master of Ceremonies, Al Slaggert, will begin the Memorial Service at 1:00pm. A ninety-minute service will encompass and reflect on the past works of our organizations, cover the spiritual aspects and the camaraderie of those past and present.

Lunch is $25 per person. RSVP office@Showmensleague.org as seating is limited.

Transportation from the Chapel to Showmen's Rest is available for the elderly and handicapped.
