The Fabbri Group recently announced the first sale of their new Daytona ride. The prototype model will be delivered to Michael Wood's Wood Entertainment Company in July and will make its North American debut at the Minnesota State Fair.
Wood originally took his idea to Fabbri for an interactive attraction modeled on the Midget Racer of his youth. "Nothing is new, just reinvented with new technology", said Wood of the Daytona. "My favorite ride as kid was the Midget Racer because you could control the cars", he added.
The Daytona enables the driver to steer the car left and right, which extends and retracts the sweep. Developed at the request of Wood, the Daytona combines bright and colorful design with a popular theme and is highly portable. Daytona includes an attractive back wall and sloped deck that gives parents good visibility and adds to the experience.
"It's more of a system really than a particular ride", said Jeff Miller, president of Amusement Ride Sales. "The interactive nature of steering the car is what makes it so attractive", he added.
The ride will be produced using several themes that will allow different versions to operate on the same midway. Wood's ride has eight cars and seats 16, both young adults and children.
The ride can be customized in size and number of cars depending upon the purchaser's budget. The ride was made with the idea of being able to appeal to potential customers of all shapes and sizes. They can make smaller versions for the budget conscious, 4 seat cars for those concerned about capacity or large permanent models for their park customers.
The Daytona is built in Italy by Fabbri but they are also working on a park model that will be partially built in the United States. This will keep costs down and delivery time to a minimum.
The second Daytona ride has been sold to a carnival in India and Miller is hoping that the ride's unique interaction with the customer will be part of a very successful future for the attraction.
