The Outdoor Amusement Business Association (OABA) will launch their inaugural "Just Dance" competition at the 2009 IAFE Convention during the Showmen's League Association Ball and Gala on Tuesday evening, Dec. 1.
The OABA has selected five dance couples/teams, representing the Carnival industry, NICA and the IAFE trade associations, to compete on stage in Las Vegas for the prestigious Just Dance trophy!
Contestants, and their bios include:
Chris Atkins &
Cathy and her husband Don Deggeller are owners of Deggeller Attractions, Inc. coming to the Just Dance stage by way of Stuart, Florida.
Chris, out of Jupiter, Florida, is the son of Tom and Margaret Atkins of Thomas Carnival. He is married to Kristin Clair Atkins of Luehr's Ideal Rides.
Chris also works for Lue
hrs Ideal Rides as well as Thomas carnival.
Eddie Porcelli III &
Melody is the beautiful wife of the Past President of NICA (National Independent Concessionaires Association) Jim Hodson. They are owners of Hodson Concessions, out of Kokomo, Indiana.
Eddie Porcelli III, the other half of this stellar NICA dance duo, has owned Spaghetti Eddie's Concessions for 42 years and is serving his third term as the Treasurer of NICA. Eddie is dancing his way into the competition by way of Edgewater, Florida.
Amber Swedgan and Mike Williams
Amber Swedgan, Director of Media and Communications for North American Midway will be putting on her dancing shoes and hitting the floor with CEO of NAME, Mike Williams. Amber leads the company's international communications activities, which include public relations, branding and advertising and executive and employee communications. Amber is the spokesman for North American Midway Entertainment. She works closely with fairs all over North America planning media coverage and assisting with special promotions and sponsorship.
Amber was a Canadian national level gymnast and trampolinist, excelling in power tumbling. She continues to train regularly on the road for running races and triathlons and recently ran in the New York City Marathon.
James Stringer &
James says, "Dancing is a way I have found to unwind from some of the stressful daily occurrences, on and off the Midway."
"I have been in this industry and part of Ray Cammack Shows for 28 years and would love to be a part of any fundraising opportunity for an industry I love, doing something I enjoy!" says James. James is the Supervisor of RCS's giant wheels.
Fleet-footed James will be dancing with the lovely and talented Bianca Cano, who is coming to the Just Dance stage all the way from Hawaii.
IAFE's Young Professionals
This YPI (Young Professionals Initiative) dance group consists of young professionals in the fair industry including: Jessica Underberg - Erie County Fair; Jennifer Giesike - Washington Town & Country Fair; Brienna Schuette - Minnesota State Fair; Chelsea Mann - North Idaho Fair & Rodeo; Chris Derby - San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo; and Melissa Kibby - Crabtree Amusements, Inc.
The winners will be chosen by a combination of judges' scores and popular voting. Judges for the event include Ron Burback, of Funtastic Shows, independent ride operator Jane Baxter Vivona, Reed Williams of Inland Empire Shows and Cindy Hoye, Executive Director of the Indiana State Fair. Bill Holmes, Director of the Mississippi Coast Coliseum and Convention Center, will host the event.
The new event is a fundraiser for the OABA Duke Smith Memorial Education Fund and SLA Scholarship Fund.
