Jeremy Floyd buys Zamperla Disko
Jeremy Floyd has added a fourth ride to his lineup of independent rides, a Zamperla Disko, which was purchased from a park on the East Coast.  Floyd will be booking the piece independently with other shows as well as some independent fairs.  The Disko will accompany three other rides including the Down Draft, Zero Gravity, and the Mondial Space Roller which Floyd has been working on restoring over the past year.  The Space Roller was brought to the USA by his aunt, Jane Baxter, who used the piece independently for more than a decade.  In 2012 she sold the ride to Walter Murphy, who used the ride for a year before selling it to Floyd.  Floyd has put a considerable amount of work into the piece including rebuilding the backwall, LED lighting upgrades, as well as other mechanical and cosmetic repairs.  In a January interview at the South Florida Fair, Jeremy told us “it is still a work in progress but we’re getting there”.  Posted by Matt Cook on 5/2/2014

Wade Shows adds fourth roller coaster

Wade Shows announced the purchase of its fourth major roller coaster, a Zamperla Crazy Mouse spinning coaster from an indoor theme park in Wisconsin Dells, WI. The coaster is in top notch condition, relatively new, and has spent its entire life in the indoor theme park. Wade Shows owner Frank Zaitshik said "We are very happy to add a fourth coaster to our lineup. We will be taking the coaster back to our winter quarters in Florida to rack it . Being a park model, it didn't have many lights so we will be adding a lighting package."  The show plans to debut the new piece this June at the Livonia Spree in Michigan, contingent on if the piece is ready in time. Other dates the new coaster is slated to appear at include the Delaware State Fair, New York State Fair, Oklahoma State Fair, Tulsa State Fair, North Carolina State Fair, and the South Florida Fair.

The show also announced the purchase of a Wisdom Landslide from Deggeller Attractions.

Dallas Fair Park to end summer midway

The Texas State Fair announced Wednesday that they will officially be ending the Summer Midway at the Texas State Fair Park in Dallas. Introduced in 2013, the summer midway featured a handful of permanent attractions previously in place for the state fair in addition to rides from several independent vendors. Such portable rides included Mike Demas' KMG Inversion (Rock It), S&J Entertainment's Wind Storm Roller Coaster & Huss Flipper, Kyle Wisdom's Starship, Nick Pelino's Love Bug kiddy himalaya, Beetle Bobs, and Viper, among other vendors.

State Fair spokeswoman Sue Gooding says attendance numbers for the summer event were not what backers hoped. She didn't immediately release details on how many people attended the inaugural Summer Adventures in Fair Park.

Because of the summer midway, many vendors were absent from other fairs with independent midways such as the San Diego County Fair, Wisconsin State Fair, and Minnesota State Fair.

Talley Amusements experiencing delay with foreign labor
With the Ft. Worth Stock Show and Rodeo opening on Friday, Mary Talley of Talley Amusements has her work cut out for her.  For the past two months, the show has been having problems getting their foreign labor.  Talley reported that their paperwork was filed properly, but the US office of Immigration in Vermont will not give them an answer as to why their paperwork has not been processed.  "Our foreign labor accounts for over 2/3 of our work force.  We were able to get the show set up, but need workers to run the rides and sell tickets" explained Talley.  The Ft. Worth Stock Show and Rodeo will open Friday, January 17 through February 8 at Will Rogers Coliseum in Ft. Worth, Texas.  Individuals are encouraged to report to the Stock Show who would like to work.  Posted by Matt Cook on 1/16/2014

Tip Top Shows going strong for 2014

David & Kim Larkee of Tip Top Shows were busy at the Wisconsin Association of Fairs convention at the Chula Vista Resort in the Wisconsin Dells visiting with existing committees and welcoming new ones.   Despite recent rumors about the show going off the road for 2014, Larkee confirmed that they are still going strong and looking forward to 2014 and beyond.  "We lost one fair, but are in the process of signing several new ones" said Larkee.  "We plan to run two units during the spring, and will combine into one larger unit for our larger summer and fall events" he added.  Owner Alan Larkee will be taking it a little easier this year and letting David and company manage the show while he is not on the road.  "There may be some management restructuring" David added.  Equipment wise, the show had listed several rides for sale with hopes of selling one or two in order to replace them with something new.  As a result, the show sold their Cliff Hanger and are in the process of replacing it with a new attraction.  "The fairs always want to know what new rides we are bringing them, so we try and change our ride lineup as much as we can" said Larkee.
